Building Communities Where Families Thrive
To build communities where families thrive--clean and safe communities with affordable housing, quality education, job opportunities, recreational activities, and more--we need leaders ready to use their time, energy, and power to create change.
LEAD is committed to collaborating with those ready to be leaders for themselves, their families, and their communities. Keep reading to learn more about LEAD's leadership development and community change model.

Parents, Grandparents, and Guardians Are Leaders
Parents, grandparents, and guardians already have the qualities found in great leaders. They are strong, passionate, creative, generous, insightful, resilient, courageous, and so much more! They have developed these skills through being leaders for themselves, their families, and their communities. We believe that these skills can be developed further and that together parents, grandparents, and guardians can create a loud and powerful voice for their families and communities.
Through the leadership development model, LEAD is creating a space for parents, grandparents, and guardians to come together, grow their leadership skills, and create change that benefits themselves, their families, and their community!

The Leadership Development Model
We are inspired by the work of Community Organizing and Family Issues (COFI) in Chicago. Over the last twenty-eight years, COFI has “helped thousands of parents around the country find their inner leader within.” LEAD is excited to provide a similar family-focused leadership model in the Dayton area.
The leadership development model emphasizes that…
1. People have the power to become leaders and make their community a better place
2. Parents and guardians are among the real experts concerning challenges families face
3. There is a connection between a parent or guardian’s personal struggles and those of the greater community
4. Leadership starts in intimate settings such as within ourselves or within our families
5. When a person has success in leadership in one setting, they gain the confidence and enthusiasm to engage in leadership in other settings

Three Phases of the Leadership Model
LEAD's leadership development model takes place in three phases. Each phase is designed to support parents, grandparents, and guardians as they strengthen and expand their leadership. Starting with self-leadership and ending with cross-community engagement, our phased leadership development helps people to become advocates and change makers. Scroll through the slides below to learn more about each phase.
