Listening In Community Conversations
A fresh Listening Campaign.
LEAD has always played an imperative role for the betterment of this city, and we are very proud of our 26 year history here in the Dayton area. We have been able to make a powerful impact on the lives of those in our community, and in our city through strategic vision, vital relationships, and the power that we have brought to the table. We want to organize…We want to build power…We want a strong united voice. Our current political climate, mixed with “in your face” problems - systemic racism, gun violence, the need for criminal justice reform, the need for environmental justice, the need for affordable housing - that confront us on local, state, and national levels make it impossible to ignore the rough seas ahead, especially as we approach the 2020 election year.
We are launching a new multi-year campaign built around the question: What is the important issue or crisis here in Dayton that we need to work on?
Vital to the success of that campaign is a thorough grounding in the values, concerns, and energy of those who make up our neighborhoods and community. The first steps of this campaign is a series of community conversations, a listening campaign. These conversations will be open to the general public, members of your congregation or organization (if any), anyone in the local neighborhood. Each conversation event will be facilitated by a two-person team (one to facilitate, one to capture content) over a 90-minute time period, with attendees seated in a circular fashion. The event format will consist of:
The role and purpose of the conversation is to surface problems or issues weighing on the hearts and minds of those in our communities in their own voices. At the conclusion of the conversations at your site, and at other sites elsewhere during this listening campaign, we will gather together the issues that emerge, sort out the top two or three, and then invite everyone who participated in the conversations to come together again to choose the issue that we will all focus on together.
